Question 1
How does your project use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
My film challenges conventions by using an object that does not inspire fear into the heart of users. Instead of using a typical object that is seen in horror movies, like dolls with some examples of those big movies being Annabelle and Chucky, we used an object that people don't normally come across in their day to day lives and that they aren't typically afraid of with that being an ice machine. My partner and I also challenged conventions by using different title fonts that are typically used among horror films. Big blockbuster horror movies, such as Get Out, Halloween, It Follows, and Scream, all use these big blocky letters for their font. Our movie on the other hand uses a chiller font for the title. While this type of font is not typically use for their horror movie titles it is used for some with one of the most well known horror film to use this font being Sixth Sense.
One way our film followed the conventions of a horror film by involving death, we included death by having our character Sharon dragged into the ice machine. Death in horror movies is extremely common with some movies' entire premises being the death of their characters such as the film Final Destination. Final Destination since its release has spawned four sequel films with each of those films' plots being centered around death. Another convention we used is having a supernatural aspect in our film by having a demon that kidnaps teenagers to kill them. The Exorcist is a prime example of a movie that contains a demon only it possesses a girl rather than being confined to an ice machine. Rather than using a lesser used supernatural creature or phenomenon, we used a demon because we thought it would be the most likely way to attract our target audience. Suspenseful music is a common factor among all horror films. In our film, we used the stereotypical horror music twice. As horror movies tend to use this music just before the horror aspect or before a death happens, we decided to do the same thing by using the music before Sharon sees the demon which ultimately pulls her into the ice machine.
The social group we represent in our film is high school students, primarily students from the southeast as our film's character are high school students and our film is set in Florida, specifically Sarasota, Florida. Our social issue was not featured in the first two minutes of our film, but if we would have produced more of the film then we would have addressed the issue of kidnapping and the communities' responses and reactions to it.
Question 2
How does your film engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Our project engages with audiences through social media. The film's twitter would feature updates for the film along with interactive polls to keep audiences interested and up to date with the film. Our twitter will also feature the official trailer as well as the teaser trailers and posters for our film to gain buzz. We would also partner with Ice-O-Matic, an ice machine company. The commercial that would result from the partnership would be enjoyable for all ages. While our target audience might not be buying an ice machine any time soon they will enjoy the comedic features the commercial would offer. We also would reach more people with the commercial to go and see the film. Audiences will like our film because its a new take on the horror movie concept with comedy and romance sprinkled throughout. Our target audience also just, so happens to be the main consumers of horror films.
Our film would first be distributed by playing for a limited time in the city of Sarasota, Florida as the film is set there. This stunt would also help to gain extra attention for our film. After the limited viewing of our movie, it would go directly to streaming services. The streaming services would be Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu. We are using all three to reach the maximum number of viewers possible. People now a days rather than going out and watching movies in theaters are more likely to stay home. This is one of the reasons why my partner and I we wanted to release directly to streaming services after a limited viewing. The film Bird Box, a 2019 hit Netflix movie, shows this way of distribution works as it had limited release of about six days before being released to Netflix to help gain traction among audiences. Now with Bird Box on Netflix around 45 million accounts have watched at least 70% of the film which is more view that it might of had in theaters. With our target audiences' age range not venturing out to theaters as much. Streaming services are the best way to have our film reach them
Question 3
How does your production skills develop throughout this project?
At the beginning of the project I had never edited a video before as the only software I used to make a video was iMovie in sixth grade. Now I now how to edit in Adobe Premiere Pro. At first, it proved to be a challenge, trying to add music clips and increase the volume of certain clips to make a noise, a bang in my film's case, more prominent. However, the more I used the software the more comfortable I became. I learned through me messing around with the clips and their volume to increase the bangs. Now, however, I feel comfortable editing and I am confident that I could use the software to edit a video if I were given one.
Question 4
How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware, and online- in this project?
When editing my partner and I used Adobe Premiere Pro, we used this software because it was readily available to use with it being installed on the laptops we were using in class. We thought Adobe would give our film a more sophisticated and professional look than iMovie would have. To film the clips featured in our film my iPhone camera, iPhone 6S, was used. As I always have my phone on me it was always readily available for when we shot the scenes for the film. It also made it easier to retrieve clips from my phone and transfer them onto my flash drive to edit. My phone's camera has good camera quality resulting in our film coming out clear. My partner and I used laptops that we had in class to conduct the research for our film looking up movies that were similar to the what we wanted to make to get a feel for what we should do for our film.We also researched the marketing and distribution of films that are in our same genre to see how we should market or distribute our film. Throughout the entire process I updated my blog with improvements and new information regarding my film. Because of this project, I learned how to use blogger and without it I would have never known that blogger existed. We used YouTube to upload and show our film. Due to YouTube we were able to receive feedback from classmates to make our film the best it could be. While making my creative critical reflection, I learned how to use the voice over tool in PowerPoint while I knew it existed I never quite used it before. By using this I was able to talk over my PowerPoint to produce my creative critical reflection video.

4th Quarter Revisions Submission
One revision that was made was by changing the credit font that was previously a cursive font to match the title font that is more of a chiller type font.
We also made the credits longer stopping them right before I entered the training room at around the 40 second mark rather than the 35 second mark. I also got rid of the black background that featured the title and put it on the track in the very first scene instead.
The black bars that we still had in the scene were Sharon checks if she bangs on the ice machine, will she get a response have been gotten rid of.

How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware and online- in this project?
When editing my partner and I used Adobe Primer Pro, we used this software because it was readily available to use with it being installed on the laptops we are using in class. We thought Adobe would help our project have more of a professional look to it rather than iMovie leading us to decide to use the Adobe software. To film the clips featured in the film, my iPhone camera, iPhone 6S, was used. As I always have my phone, it was easy to get shoots done because we didn't have to deal with a conflict of a camera not being available when we had to get a shoot done due to our schedules. It also made it easier to retrieve clips from my phone on to put on my flash drive to edit. My phone's camera has pretty good quality resulting in the images coming out clear. The phone was really the easiest to get a hold of and use for us to film the project. Now I definitely feel more comfortable with the editing software and feel that if someone were to give me a video to edit then I would be able to edit it without confusion or questions that I couldn't figure out by myself.

How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Our product will engage with audiences through our films social media. The film's twitter would feature updates for the film and interactive polls to keep audiences interested and up to date with the film. Our twitter will also feature the official trailer as well as the teaser trailers and posters for our film to gain buzz. The commercial that results from the partnership from Ice-O-Matic will be enjoyable for all ages especially our target audience while they might not be buying an ice machine in the near future they will enjoy the comedic features of the commercial.
Our film would be distributed first by playing for a limited time in the city of Sarasota, Florida as the film was set there. This stunt would also help to gain extra attraction for our film. After the limited viewing our movie would go directly to streaming services; Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu. We would use all three to reach the maximum number to viewers possible. The film Bird Box that was a hit before being released onto Netflix had a limited release of about six days to help gain traction among audience. Now with Bird Box being on Netflix around 45 million accounts have watched at least 70% of the film, which is more views than it might of had in theaters. With our target audience's age range not venturing out to theaters as much because to streaming services the best way to have the film reach them would be to use those streaming services to distribute to them.
